The Typeface so far...
'THIS WAY UP'Still needs some work, but i have the basic down. Needs a tidy up and then I have an idea for presenting it.

Royal Mail Brief.

Creating my own typeface. So an exploration of type today..
After doing some paper based design work, I am going to do a simple 'Box' font. I think what will make this font interesting is the use of material.
Research into Parcels...
Words to keep in mind: Bundles, this way up, straight edge, fragile, string, celotape

Jazz Cakes Logo.
Next step - look at business card and promo material.
Direction from here, chosen logo - top image, second on top row, needs refining. Look at the kerning between letters etc. and refine the slice of cake. Going to photgraph slices of cake! Maybe adding texture would improve on this? Or maybe keeping subtlety of the cake will be better? - so it does not look too much like a cake company. But the only way to find out is to test it.

DESIGN SHEETS - (don't know why blogger has loaded them upside down)
refer to paper designs for more development.
IDEA 1 - The Cake Slice.
Idea 2 - Using the composition of a saxophone to create the layout for the logo.

Evaluation time.
So, trying to turn the last two weeks into a positive experience.
With alot going on everywhere, work and at home, it has caused a bit of a slump on my creativity. I have decided to leave the last two briefs (the metro and the headline) for a break. It seems from the last Crit that they are just not working, especially the headline one.
I have decided to take on two new briefs, and hopefully go back to the other two. One of them is what I see as quite a straightforward one - Jazzcakes. This is to do some branding and promo material. The brief is straightforward, I am just going to push the boundaries and try and make some exciting and good design. I think if i have some boundaries to push it allows me to create better design rather than just being lost in the boundaries, like in the headline brief.
The other brief I am going to take on is a personal one. I basically want to create my own typefaces and then apply these typefaces to different formats. But I am going to think of this as two different briefs. My theme for this is the Post office/Royal Mail, basing it around encouraging young couples to write to each other. (I might later change this audience, but this is a starting point)

Metro - Targeting my Audience.

I think it would be good to do something a bit inventive for research purposes. I have designed a quick postcard, which has actually given me some ideas for the final piece - Morning Pick Me Up - play on my original idea of a morning fix, and the idea of picking something up..
Metro.
I need to get back into this brief,
I have started sending out this Questionnaire..
Name:
MALE/FEMALE
E-mail Address:

Headline Development.

I made some more changes over the weekend, these are just some screen shots that I did of the development. I think it is starting to come together now, the context of gigs for the illustration has given me quite alot to work with. The only thing is, this was intended to be a one week brief! But the longer i have spent on it, the better it seems to be getting. I am going to make another deadline for Wednesday (when we have a crit) and after that just make any small adjustments that need doing, and select the best one to submit. Then i can spend the reading week on Metro and a new Brief. Hopefully will have finished two by the time i come back after reading week (headline + metro)
