My Briefs - Rationale and Statement of Intent.

Design Strategies // Hannah Lloyd //

Rationale.

I have chosen my briefs, a few of which need to be clarified.

The two competition briefs are advertising based. I also wanted to do something that is not promotional based, so I am also going to do some T-shirts designs from my friends company. I have not been briefed to do anymore than this, but I may look into their branding and some promo material too.

For the personal brief, I went about deciding what to do for this using the Format of Subject, Process, Context and Product. And decided to use a subject that Johnson Banks have used in the past, which I found really interesting – the post office/royal mail.

I chose the promotional briefs as I think this is the area that I want to go into after university.

The T-shirt design brief, is for me to experiment with something commercial, to see if I can create designs that people will buy rather than designs to make people buy something else. And this is always a way to make a little extra money.

Statement of Intent //

Brief 1. D&AD (3 weeks)

Subject – Metro.
Process – Print.
Context – Advertising.
Product – Minimum of 3 poster executions.

Brief 2. YCN (3 weeks)

Subject – Skype
Process – Print.
Context – Advertising.
Product – Posters.

Brief 3. Don’t Panic (on going, when ever I have some spare time)

This subject will be different for each one, but they will all be in the format of a print based poster.

Brief 4. Jazz Cakes (1 week)

I have not been sent the finalised brief yet, but it will be based around a mixture of type and image.

Brief 5. Personal. (4 weeks)

Subject – Royal Mail/Post Office
Process – Print.
Context – Advertising.
Product – A set of posters – which will probably be extended to other formats.

Brief 6. Headline. (Possibility) (1 week)

Subject – A headline
Process – Print.
Context – Exhibition
Product – A poster
